Abstract: Small chemistry undergraduate programs have long had difficulty affording adequate access for students and faculty to print chemistry literature. Even with special package plans offered by publishers, it was often difficult to purchase more than a few print subscriptions. The current electronic environment for publishing of scientific literature has opened new opportunities for leveling the playing field in undergraduate education. Through consortia purchasing of electronic subscription packages, many small programs are now able to gain access to a broad range of current and retrospective chemistry literature. While consortia purchasing of electronic packages does not generally reduce costs, it can frequently leverage the dollars spent to greater advantage. This symposium will share information about couple of actual cases as well as suggest strategies for other small undergraduate chemistry programs to get into the game
