Program Management System - 21st BCCE - Chemistry Modeling using PhET Free Simulations

Workshop Title: Chemistry Modeling using PhET Free Simulations
Descrption: Do you want to help your students make sense of Chemistry? Interactive simulations can help students develop their ideas about chemistry through life-like investigations, visuals that includes molecular models, and inquiry based lessons. The PhET project provides a free website of simulations that are specifically designed to support student learning. A few of the chemistry simulations are: Salts and Solubility, Gas Properties, and Reactions and Rates. This workshop will help you design effective lessons and use lessons that other teachers have shared. In this workshop, you will learn about the research that helped establish the simulations and guidelines for inquiry based activities. You will have time to explore the simulations, look at lessons available free on the web, and work on writing a lesson for your class. Check out the PhET website at http://phet.colorado.edu/web-pages Bring your laptop to optimize your experience.

Computer: Participants should bring a laptop. We will provide the free software that they need
Demo: See the chemistry simulations at http://phet.colorado.edu/simulations/index.php?cat=Chemistry
Extra Information: We have provided workshops for several organizations and would be happy to send the evaluations. Also, we can provide a detailed schedule for the workshop. We are working on more chemistry simulations that will be available by the conference. For example, one on limiting reactants and another on balancing reactions.
Itemized Expenses: handouts, folders, USB drives
